Post-doctoral researcher in microbiology / biomaterials engineering

Type de contrat et durée:
Post-doctoral position for 14 months
Descriptif du poste:

The Inserm Unit UMR_1121 / University of Strasbourg is located at the  Biomedicine Research Center in Strasbourg where 45 researchers, engineers and technicians collaborate on the field of biomaterials. Our mission is the design of innovative materials for Health in order to respond to major clinical issues (prevention of infections related to medical devices, dental  / ENT / pediatric tissue regeneration,...). Innovation is our daily leitmotiv, in a setting where all staff collaborate with enthusiasm, empathy and efficiency.

As part of a Maturation project funded by SATT Conectus, (our Transfer Technology Office), we aim to continue the development of a new type of biocidal products (antibacterial and antiviral) that, unlike products currently on the market, protect long after their applications and are free of substances dangerous to humans or the environment. The objective,  based on the innovation already in place in the laboratory, is to finalize the design of a hydrogel produced from natural ingredients (from algae) and to demonstrate a biocidal activity superior to the existing one.

Within the laboratory and in conjunction with an industrial partner engaged as a co-designer for the project, you will develop methods to manufacture and to characterize the materials, then you will carry out the evaluation of biological properties (biocompatibility, bacteriology, virology). You will have to conduct these experiments yourself or to manage them in a collaborative framework with academic laboratories or private subcontractor. You will provide in the form of reports and oral presentations all the results produced and you will propose a roadmap for the next steps.

With a key role within the project and a high degree of autonomy, you will be in contact with the entire project team of the laboratory and Conectus
